Many of us must have seen ‘a pendulum ‘ in some movies, especially when the protagonist is facing some problems, and is brought to a psychiatrist. The psychiatrist would use a pendulum to communicate with the subconscious mind of the patient. He would induce the protagonist into hypnosis by telling him, “Look at this pendulum… Now you are going into deep sleep…” and the protagonist would suddenly enter into some past life and start telling his story…”
Most of us thought pendulum as an instrument of hypnotherapist. Many less know that, “Pendulum is tool used for divination.” Pendulum dowsing is a use of a weighted object on a string or chain to get an answer, usually in a Yes / No format. Pendulum dowsing is a query system used in many different practices from hypnosis to healing.
Apart for seeing in movies, I practically saw a pendulum when I was initiated into Reiki in 1999. I was astonished how it moved into my hands and followed my command, as I would tell it to move clockwise / anti clockwise / horizontal to programme it. I started my practice by asking simple questions having straight forward “Yes / No” answers.
At that time I was not aware of the deeper meaning as well as multiple usage of pendulum dowsing unless I met Master Narendra Bhatia from Delhi in 2001. He is an expert in pendulum dowsing and taught me few basic lessons in pendulum dowsing before I formally learned pendulum dowsing from him. I came to know pendulum dowsing is just not fantasy but having its roots in history and have scientific basis for this.
In ancient times a divining rod was used to find out water and exploring mines. Dowsing has a very ancient history.
- There are pictographs in the ‘Tassili-n-Ajjer’ caves in south – east Libya that show a group of people watching a diviner with a forked stick. It has been estimated that these drawings could be 8,000 years old.
- In the fifth century B. C., Herodotus described how the Scythians dowsed with willow rods.
- There is a tradition that suggests that the Queen of Sheba included dossers in her entourage whenever she traveled to see Solomon. Their task was to dowse for water and gold.
- Divining “rods” are mentioned several times in the Old Testament. Moses is said to have struck a rock twice with his rod, and the rock produced enough water to satisfy Moses’ people and their cattle.
- In the sixteenth century, dowsing rods regularly used in German mines.
- Other famous dowsing advocates in history include Leonardo De Vinci (inventor), Robert Boyle (father of modern chemistry), Charles Richet (Nobel Prize winner), General Patton (U. S. Army).
Just as radios pick up information from unseen radio waves, the pendulum is a powerful antenna that receives information from the vibrations and energy waves emitted by people, places, thoughts and things.
Noted physicist, Albert Einstein, was known to perform impressive feats with such dowsing tools. He believed that it had to do with electromagnetism: just as migrating birds follow the earth’s magnetic field, dowsers react to energies that are unseen and still not fully understood.
Some people say that the pendulum creates a bridge between the logical and intuitive parts of the mind. Some say that the pendulum connects them with a higher power and call it “divining” as the information is believed to come from a divine source. Research by many scientists indicates that the pendulum responds to electromagnetic energy that radiates from everything on Earth.
Pendulum dowsing can be used in a variety of ways.
In its most simple form, you can use it to answer questions or aid in decision-making. For example, healing purposes and identifying allergies, to check the quality of freshness of food and water, determine compatibility between people – places – things, health of plants and animals, to cleanse and dispel negativity in a room, to help to find lost objects or pets, to find water etc.
I have witnessed many cases of pendulum dowsing. I still remember the case then came to my teacher Master Narendra Bhatia, a case of lost child. There was no clue where the child is… and with the help of map and his pendulum he constantly helped the family and police to find the lost child, by giving them clues to find in which direction and area.
In one more case a lady came to him for his advice. She was to undergo a surgery in military hospital on specific date and time fixed already. While dowsing he found that if she chooses to undergo surgery in military hospital on that specific date, something very negative could happen to her. He also suggested not to go in army hospital, instead she should go to AIIMS hospital for treatment. But that Lady was reluctant as the doctor was known to her family. She went back to home and told everything to her husband. The husband got furious, as he didn’t believe in dowsing. Also treatment in military hospital was to save his forty thousand rupees. He called up my teacher angrily that why he suggested so to his wife? Then my teacher told him “to just skip that specific date and time for surgery and wait. If still you are not convinced, I will pay you forty thousand rupees but please skip the day of surgery fixed already “. Somehow they skip that date by telling the doctor by saying that patient is having high fever. The doctor took another patient for surgery on that day but that patient died there. After knowing that they were grateful to my teacher and decided to go for surgery in the hospital suggested by my teacher.
When I go for Vastu visit, I carry my pendulum along with compass. I use my pendulum to check negative, dense, frozen energy areas of the place. The interesting thing is pendulum not only detects the negativity but also heals and energizes the space.
I have used pendulum to suggest my clients — where to invest from different options, in choosing business partners by checking intentions, integrity and compatibility between the partners. Same applies to choosing partner for marriage. In this case pendulum dowsing acts like sort of matching horoscopes.
Dowsing also helped my clients to choose the compatible doctor and line of treatment from different options like, allopathy, homeopathy, Ayurvedic. My young clients take advice while choosing subjects and career options. Dowsing has helped to find misplaced jewelry as well as lost pets.
The most wonderful aspect of pendulum for me is healing. I use pendulum to check Chakras and auras of my client. Clearing and healing with pendulum is called “Tele therapy”.
Another interesting aspect of pendulum dowsing is you can do mass healing with pendulum with the help of different “energy charts” for example balancing the Chakras, body Elementals, Aura etc. I have also used my pendulum as a healing tool while giving Angel therapy treatments to my clients.
I have found that, with more knowledge there comes more moral responsibility. For example, sometimes some people come to determine the sex of the baby yet to born… You never know if you tell them it’s a baby girl, they may get it abort. So, as a dowser it is my moral responsibility not to deal with such cases where you can attract negative Karma. Same thing applies for gambling and other such anti social activities. I have experienced that there are multidimensional uses of pendulum since years and I am still discovering it. Pendulum dowsing is an art that needs to be perfected by constant practice. Pendulum dowsing is a subject of experiments and research.
